This beautiful scene on Snow Hill Road in Ooltewah,
Tennessee has been captured by the artist to perhaps revive old memories of our
own "home place". The cool crisp autumn day stirs the senses with vibrant
goldenrods in bloom and clear skies above as the old farmer gentleman once again
tends the livestock in the back fields.
"Home Place" is the same complex
of farm buildings seen in "Claude's Creek" pictured from the adjacent side of
the scene. The goldenrods of Autumn accent the setting on Snow Hill Road
in Ooltewah, TN. This scene is an example of Hampton's tendency, that
spanned his early career to his last years of his life, to do several variations
on the same theme. His compelling desire to relive and share through his
painting fond memories of childhood is very much evident here.
