The Appalachian region is one of the most scenic areas
of the United States and is also of great historical interest. Unlike the
Rockies, the Appalachian Mountains do not have the rugged grandeur, but have
gentler and more subdued forms as shown here in a lofty perspective of the
"Appalachian Trail". It stretches over 1500 miles from Maine to Georgia.
The flame azaleas dotting the cliffs to this view of the trail grow only in the
high elevations, the Carolinas.
