The brilliance of fall in the Great Smoky Mountains created a subject for "Pondering Quail."  The peaceful mountain retreat is situated among the sumac, sweetgum and chestnuts-leaves all ablaze with colors of autumn.  The covey of quail seem to be pondering over whether winter is really very near.
