"Dad" is a character study of an old farmer of Hog Jaw valley.  "The old man bears a striking resemblance to my own Dad," stated Ben Hampton when being interviewed about the painting.  Great attention was given to facial detail-the kind expression, the gentle eyes, the deep wrinkles, the weathered lines-coupled with the friendly gesture of the hand, all gave special character and meaning to "Dad."
